A Modern Farmhouse with a Country Soul

A Southern Highlands retreat where contemporary architecture meets collected interiors, creating a home that feels warm, timeless and deeply connected to its surroundings.

Contemporary Living With Character

Designed by interior designer Graham Simmonds of Gray & Co., this Southern Highlands holiday home takes a thoughtful approach to modern farmhouse living. Clean architectural lines are softened with natural materials, vintage furnishings and carefully considered detailing, resulting in interiors that feel calm, welcoming and lived in.

Rather than filling the home with new furniture, Graham carefully restored and reupholstered second-hand pieces, giving each room a sense of history and personality. The collected approach adds warmth and authenticity, demonstrating how character can be thoughtfully layered into a contemporary home.

A Refined Balance of Modern and Country

Throughout the home, warm timbers, brass accents and tactile materials bring a subtle country influence to an otherwise restrained palette. The result isn’t overtly rustic, but a refined interpretation of farmhouse style that feels equally suited to the surrounding landscape and modern family living.

Intrim’s SK552 skirting and architrave features throughout, framing each space with soft, elegant detailing that complements both the contemporary architecture and traditional influences.

Thoughtful Detail in Every Space

The kitchen continues the home’s balanced approach, combining a striking marble splashback with a timber island and warm brass hardware. Together with the architectural mouldings, these materials create a space that feels both sophisticated and inviting.

Elsewhere, bespoke detailing introduces moments of individuality. In the wine room, a custom wall lining based on Intrim’s SK839 profile transforms a functional storage space into a dramatic design feature, adding depth, texture and a unique backdrop for the wine collection.

The bathrooms continue the same considered language. Moisture-resistant LB35 lining board provides warmth and texture as an alternative to full-height tiling, while custom wall battens developed from Intrim’s SK06 profile introduce subtle curves that soften the contemporary palette and reference classic country detailing.

A Home Designed to Last

From the layered material palette to the carefully selected moulding profiles, every detail contributes to a home that feels cohesive and enduring. Rather than following trends, the design celebrates craftsmanship, quality materials and thoughtful reuse, creating a modern farmhouse that feels both timeless and personal.
