Burleigh Beach Shack

Designed by Rachael Turner from Front Porch Properties, this Queensland coastal home explores the balance between structure and softness through carefully layered architectural detailing. From the moment you enter, V-groove panelling across both walls and ceilings introduces texture and rhythm, setting the tone for the interiors beyond.

The open-plan kitchen and living areas build on this foundation, where a coffered ceiling becomes a defining feature. Created using Intrim’s LB100 lining boards, the ceiling detail is framed with DAR battens laid in a grid formation and finished with IN33 inlay mould, adding depth while maintaining a light, coastal feel.

Craftsmanship in Every Room

Detail continues throughout the home, with board and batten wainscoting and custom joinery reinforcing a consistent design language. In the kitchen, batten detailing extends to the island, creating subtle texture and visual interest without overwhelming the space.

Intrim’s SK366 skirting and SK392 architraves provide a consistent base detail throughout, supporting the proportions of each room. SB05 skirting blocks were used at the base of doorways where skirting meets architrave, helping resolve junctions cleanly while linking the different profiles across the home. Elsewhere, WB01 wall battens create feature moments, including a bedroom wall that pairs tonal colour with layered materials for a calm, grounded feel.

A Cohesive Coastal Interior

From the living spaces through to more functional areas like the laundry, the use of V-groove panelling, batten detailing and considered colour brings continuity across the home. A muted coastal palette is punctuated with deeper tones, adding contrast while maintaining a relaxed overall atmosphere.

The result is a home that feels resolved and cohesive, where classic detailing is adapted for a contemporary coastal lifestyle.
