Intrim Shadowline SK800 flush finish skirting in a modern living room with timber flooring and clean-lined interiors.

Install Shadowline 4.5x Faster

Cut labour time. Reduce site complexity. Deliver a cleaner, more consistent finish with Intrim Shadowline® SK800 integrated flush finish skirting system.

The Real Cost of Traditional Shadowline

If you’ve built shadowline using P50 or L-bead, you know the process:

  • Install noggins as support for where plaster and timber meets
  • Fix angle bead and struggle with achieving a consistent shadowgroove
  • Set while trying to get alignment between skirting and plasterboard
  • Challenges with bending metal angle on curved wall

Each step adds time, coordination, and risk.

Small inconsistencies in framing, plastering, or alignment show up in the final result, often leading to rework at the worst stage of the build.

A Smarter Way to Build Shadowline

With Intrim Shadowline SK800, the detail is built into the board itself. There’s no bead. No separate set-out. No multi-step build-up. Just fix the skirting, set the plasterboard to it, and finish.

Based on internal installation testing across six teams:

  • Over 4.5 times faster than P50
  • 22 hours saved on a typical home with 200m of skirting
  • Approx. $1,870 labour saving per build

The average of times across the teams:

  • SK800: 1 min 49 sec per metre
  • P50: 8 min 37 sec per metre

Less time on site. More predictable build outcomes.

Why Builders & Plasterers Are Switching

Faster Installs

Eliminates multiple steps like noggins, bead fixing, caulking and plaster set-out.

More consistent finish

The shadowline is moulded directly into the board – not built on site, so it stays clean and uniform.

Reduced rework

Fewer variables means fewer defects, callbacks, and delays, and less reliance on multiple trades getting it "just right".

Designed For Real-World Construction

Intrim Shadowline is designed to align with how projects are actually built:

  • Installed prior to plasterboard
  • No metal angles or L-beads required
  • No need to noggin
  • Compatible with standard plasterboard thicknesses
  • Ideal for curved walls – flexes seamlessly
  • Suitable for residential, multi-residential, and commercial builds

It’s not just a product, it’s a system designed to reduce friction on site.

Compare the Methods

Method How It’s Built Result
Intrim Shadowline SK800 Integrated profile – shadowline detail pre-formed Clean, consistent shadowline – even around curved walls
P50 Built on site with metal angle + DAR Variable, prone to cracking, inconsistent shadow gap, potential misalignment
L-bead Built on site with plastic bead + skirting installed afterward More consistent than P50, but still variable with possible cracking at the top of the shadowline gap

A Complete, Integrated System

A shadowline detail is only as good as its weakest junction.

The SK800 skirting system pairs with the DJ800 Shadowline door jamb, allowing the detail to run seamlessly across:

  • Walls
  • Door openings
  • Transitions

The result is a consistent architectural line throughout the entire space – not just along the floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is shadowline skirting?

Shadowline skirting is a skirting that is flush with the face of the plasterboard, incorporating a negative 10mm shadowgroove at various heights from the floor whereas a traditional skirting is fixed to the face of the plasterboard, protruding from the wall.

What's the difference between P50, L-bead, and Intrim SK800 Shadowline?

P50 and L-bead are both site-built methods: a metal angle (P50) or plastic bead (L-bead) is fixed to the wall, plastered, and set out by hand before the skirting is added. Intrim SK800 has the shadowline detail pre-formed into the skirting board itself, removing the separate bead-fixing and set-out steps.

Do you still need noggins with Intrim Shadowline SK800?

No. SK800 is designed to be fixed and set without the noggins that traditional P50 or L-bead installs typically require.

Is Intrim SK800 compatible with standard plasterboard?

Yes. SK800 is compatible with standard plasterboard thicknesses and is installed prior to the plasterboard installation.

How much faster is Intrim SK800 than traditional shadowline methods?

Based on internal testing, SK800 installs in around 1 minute 49 seconds per metre, compared to 8 minutes 37 seconds per metre for P50 – over 4.5 times faster.
