A Nautical-Deco Icon Reimagined

See how Intrim's mouldings helped redefine this P&O style home in Sydney's Dover Heights. Reimagined for modern family living by Danielle Victoria Design Studio.

A P&O Style Revival in Dover Heights

Perched on a prominent corner block with sweeping city skyline views, this Dover Heights residence is a striking example of how to honour a home’s architectural heritage while bringing it firmly into the present.

Originally built in the P&O style – a 1930s architectural movement inspired by the sleek, streamlined elegance of luxury ocean liners, the property had great bones but needed a complete reimagining to suit modern family living.

Danielle Victoria Design Studio embraced the challenge, transforming the home into a five-bedroom, three-bathroom, two-powder-room residence that blends the glamour of its nautical-deco heritage with the comfort, flow, and functionality expected today.

The Design Vision

The owners were looking to retain the home’s original P&O character while enhancing livability, flow, and symmetry. Without altering the window and door placements on the iconic façade, the internal floor plan was redesigned to improve circulation and create a balanced layout.

A palette of whites and blues celebrate the home’s coastal location, while Intrim’s SK37 skirting boards and architraves frame each room with clean lines and understated elegance. These profiles, with their subtle Art Deco influence, bring architectural structure to the airy interiors while respecting the home’s heritage style.

In the key living space, Intrim’s IN32 inlay mould takes centre stage as statement wainscoting around the fireplace and as a refined frame for the TV above – adding depth, proportion, and a bespoke focal point to the main entertaining space.

Inside, honed Carrara marble, polished chrome hardware, and elegant joinery layer in a sense of sophistication, while outside, bold monochrome tones contrast beautifully with the vivid greens of the newly landscaped gardens.

Using Mouldings to Enhance P&O Style Interiors

While original P&O interiors tend toward simplicity, this renovation demonstrates how carefully chosen mouldings can elevate the style without overwhelming it. The SK37 profile works perfectly with the home’s streamlined architecture, while the IN32 inlay mould brings a touch of refinement that feels timeless, yet modern.
