Knird Wine Bar

The name says it all—KNIRD is “drink” spelled backwards, a playful nod to a place where the usual rules don’t apply. This isn’t just another wine bar. Knird is tucked into Sydney’s Crows Nest, where good food, exceptional wine, and genuine community converge in a space that feels both intimate and alive.

Developer Andrew Day, interior architect Nadine Port from NN Design, and the interior styling team at Unfolded had their work cut out for them—a tight, raw concrete shell that needed transformation. Their vision? A boutique wine bar and diner that would feel warm and inviting despite its industrial bones.

The material palette tells the story: rosé stone brings softness, terrazzo flooring grounds the space with tactile interest, and wenge timber seating adds depth and richness. Ambient lighting bathes everything in a warm glow, creating the kind of atmosphere where conversations linger and bottles empty slowly.

Curves That Command Attention

But it’s the bar itself that becomes the hero. Across its front, Intrim’s CC30 concave mouldings in American Oak create a striking textural feature—warm timber curves that draw the eye and invite you closer. Each batten features a semi-circular groove that forms a decorative scallop pattern, adding dimensionality and visual rhythm to what could have been a simple flat surface. The result is spectacular: organic, tactile, and utterly distinctive.

These timber curves soften the concrete shell’s harder edges, proving that thoughtful detailing can transform a space from merely stylish into truly memorable. At KNIRD, every element works together to create an experience that’s as much about the environment as it is about what’s in your glass.
