The Diamond Necklace to a Black Dress: The Final Layer

Excellent Interior Design is certainly a long and complex process. It is far more than selecting some nice pieces and having them installed. Quintessential to the planning is understanding how all the elements come together; how they quite literally join in terms of accurate measurements, colours, tones and materials. Attention needs to be paid to every layer – no layer is more important than any other. Sloppiness towards the end of the project can derail the entire design.

Mouldings such as skirting boards, cornices and architraves serve as a final layer, dressing the walls and ceilings. Quality designers know which details to accentuate and which details to meld into the background. Mouldings are important across every design style, as well as in both the dry zones and the wet zones of the home. From Modern to Traditional, to Hamptons, to Ornate, let’s take a look at the difference between design styles and the affects correct mouldings can have on the final results.

Here in our Birdblack Design Studio, we work in a fabulous modern design style. Take a moment to appreciate this marvellous wallpaper and gorgeous deep cobalt blue wall paint.  Despite being a completely different style to a traditional Hamptons Glam, we found that the Hamptons profile skirtings were subtle on the eyes, working absolutely perfectly as our backdrop and allowing our bodacious colour scheme and feature wallpaper the spotlight.

From the coast, past the metropolis and into the country, Birdblack Design presents our ‘Cleveland Residence’ – a very rural take on a Hamptons home. Take a look at the exquisite cabinetry featured on the Kitchen Island! Both the skirting detail and the inlay moulding add another layer of character to this home. This project is soon to be revealed on the Birdblack Design website and social media, so stay tuned for this astounding rural property with views for miles!

The Hamptons Glam design style is famous for layering and texture, so this addition on the walls creates a decorative and dimensional component that is so fitting for this home.

No matter the style, no matter the design, always ensure you are completing your projects with the much needed final layers. No need to leave your home “undressed”. Choose the right diamond necklace for that black dress – and you’ll be sure to turns heads!
