Russellville 1913

This Federation-era renovation by Studio Trio balances restored heritage details with a light-filled, contemporary reconfiguration for modern living. Custom Intrim mouldings, traditional wainscoting and panelling, and layered colour bring new expression while honouring the homeโ€™s original character.

Where Federation Heritage Meets Modern Living

Russellville 1913 is the result of a deeply personal renovation by Studio Trio founders Steven and Lauren, who undertook the careful restoration of their own 1913 Federation home in Sydneyโ€™s inner west. Located within a conservation heritage area, the project required a considered approach, balancing respect for the homeโ€™s historical significance with the needs of modern living.

Respecting the Original Architecture

Working within heritage guidelines, the renovation involved a full-scale interior and exterior transformation. The rear of the home was completely reconfigured to create a functional, light-filled living zone, while the original architecture was carefully preserved and celebrated. Key heritage elements were reinstated throughout, including original ceilings, cornices, tuck-pointed brickwork, and all chimneys and fireplaces, restoring the homeโ€™s Federation-era character.

A Contemporary Interior Layered with Colour

Inside, the interiors were reimagined with a fresh pastel palette that reflects the ownersโ€™ creative approach to design. Bold yet considered, the spaces blend colour, texture, and detail to create a home that feels both expressive and cohesive. Every room was thoughtfully considered, resulting in a layered interior that bridges heritage elegance with contemporary comfort.

Custom Mouldings and Traditional Detail

Studio Trio collaborated closely with Intrim to develop a custom skirting and architrave profile suited to the homeโ€™s period detailing, including bespoke solutions for the curved arches. SB03 skirting blocks were used where skirting meets architraves at door bases, while LB100 lining boards feature throughout the interiors. Traditional wainscoting was introduced using Intrimโ€™s IN31 inlay mould paired with the CR50 chair rail, reinforcing the homeโ€™s classic proportions and craftsmanship.

Recreating the Look

For those looking to achieve a similar heritage look in their own projects, Intrimโ€™s SK227 or SK189 profiles offer a close match to this custom detailing. Both profiles suit Federation and period-style homes, providing the same sense of depth, scale, and traditional character seen throughout Russellville 1913.
